Prof. David Bikard Research Laboratory |
Prof. David Bikard is a principal investigator at the Institut Pasteur and head of the Synthetic Biology Group in the Department of Microbiology. He obtained an engineer degree from AgroParisTech as well as a master degree and PhD from Paris Diderot University for his work performed at the Institut Pasteur on the integron bacterial recombination system; he then joined the laboratory of Luciano Marraffini at the Rockefeller University as a postdoctoral fellow where he started to work on CRISPR systems. Prof. Bikard is interested in applying engineering principles to better understand and fight pathogenic bacteria. The Bikard lab focuses on CRISPR biology as a tool to study and fight pathogenic bacteria. Prof. Bikard has also a running ERC Consolidator Grant aiming at the development of sequence-specific antimicrobials using CRISPR and phagemid engineering as vectors to deliver self-targeting CRISPR systems to bacterial populations.
