Michele De Luca is Professor of Biochemistry, Director of the Centre for Regenerative Medicine “Stefano Ferrari” and Director of the Interdepartmental Centre for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy). He is also Scientific Director and Co-Founder of Holostem Terapie Avanzate S.r.l., spin-off of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Prof. De Luca has dedicated most of his scientific activities to translational medicine and he is recognised internationally as leading scientist in stem cell biology, with a particular focus for the development of epithelial stem cell-mediated cell therapy and gene therapy. He has characterised the molecular mechanisms regulating long term proliferative potential, clonal evolution and self-renewal of epithelial stem cells, pioneering ex-vivo epithelial stem cell-mediated gene therapy for genetic skin diseases.
