Matthew Vander Heiden is one of the world top experts of metabolism of cancer cells.
He made several seminal discoveries, such as the identification of metabolites fundamental for the proliferation of cancer cells, or the description of how metabolic pathways are rewired in different type of cancers. He is also interested in how the environment and diet influence the metabolism of single cells and the whole body.
